Cyclone

Cyclone – Middleware Search Server

Cyclone LogoCyclone is a universal search middleware, simultaneously usable by several applications. The target group consists of application developers, who wish to add flexible search functions to their applications.

3 primary reasons to use Cyclone:

  • Data are searchable companywide from a single location
  • Removal of search functionality from internal company applications in order to develop them further independently, to test, document or maintain
  • No inseparable connection of applications to a particular third-party search engine - this means an easier switch, i.e. to Lucene, Egothor or Google Search Appliances

Primary features of Cyclone:

  • The search engine core can easily be replaced
  • Several third-party search engines can be used simultaneously
  • Use of several indices is possible (also with various search engines)
  • Applications can communicate via a defined API using protocols RMI, JMS and WebService
  • Client applications can be programmed in any user-defined language, since Cyclone uses XML for data exchange
  • Indices can be configured for optimal performance via a web interface

The difference between use of Cyclone and low-level search engines such as Lucene and Egothor consists in the abundance of functionalities based on them, for example high security, various communication protocols, concurrency control, parsers for various document types, statistics, results paging, cache services, sorting, result highlighting, text analysis (punctuation aids, synonyms, language recognition etc.).
